Women's Theatre Festival's Othello

William Shakespeare’s Othello, adapted into modern language by a Black woman, directed by a Black woman and featuring an all Black femme creative team. This is not the Othello you’re used to. Monèt serves as both the Dramaturg and Intimacy Director in the production directed by JaMeeka D. Holloway.

Set in a modern-day Elite All Women’s Academic Collegiate Institution. Despite the implications of systemic racism in the institution, the brilliant Othello excels both academically and socially. Her success triggers envy and unearths the covert racism of her colleagues and her close friend and “ally”, Iago, who sets in motion a vile scheme to sabotage and destroy her.
