Bring Me My Purse project
Did you know that the average net worth of a Black woman in America is $0 if she is college educated; -$1100 if she is not. How did we get here? How did enslaved Black women create wealth through their physical and reproductive labor to now passing debt down through generations? How do Black woman continue to be the societal “breadlosers” while feeding everyone else? How much do we owe Black women, gender nonconforming and nonbinary folx? When will we pay up?
pass the purse!
In February 2020, I will launch a national survey asking Black women, gender nonconforming and nonbinary folx about their relationship to money. I will ask them questions about how their relationship to money compares to their mother’s, do they feel valued and who owes them money. If the conversations that I am having about these topics are any indication, I expect to receive fascinating results. In order for this survey to capture a wide set of people, I will need help spreading the word.
Will you help pass the purse?
By submitting your information below, you will receive the survey link direct to your inbox. You will also receive the #UnpackYourPurse pack, a free downloadable facilitation packet that will support you having these conversations in your community. I only ask that you take the survey (if you are a Black woman, gender nonconforming or nonbinary person) and/or share it with 5 people that fit the bill.
